5:30am in St Lucia, sun didn’t rise yet and we are up and ready for our one day trip to Martinique.
But before we all embark on this journey, it would only be fair to tell you a few facts about this beautiful island.
The insular region of France, Martinique, is located in the Lesser Antilles in the eastern Caribbean Sea. It was discovered by Christopher Columbus and later it had been conquered by France. Britain had it under its occupation for three short periods of time, but it still ended up in France’s possession. Being part of France, the volcanic island is therefore part of the European Union and its currency is euro.
We walked from our hotel on Reduit Beach to Rodney Bay Marina (30-40 min walk). Definitely, the best way to start the morning. Until we got there, sun was up and shining. Temperature was around 26 degrees Celsius – the beginning of a perfect day. We waited, on the deck, for everyone else to arrive and as soon as the team was complete, we boarded. Our passports were collected by the boat’s captain, as they needed to present them to Martinique Customs.
As we sailed away from St Lucia’s Rodney Bay Marina, clouds started gathering over the island. It then started pouring and we could barely see the land, at that point. But we weren’t worried at all, because where we were heading there was no sign of clouds. Clear skies and calm water all the way, for an unforgettable day.
