Toroella de Montgri and L’Estartit
During our one month stay in Toroella de Montgri, we would get to discover some amazing places and meet wonderful people. So follow our posts related to this beautiful medieval town and its surroundings, to get an idea of what you might be missing out on.
Toroella de Montgri
We visited this small medieval town, in Spain, a few years ago and it’s well worth mentioning it in our blog.
Located at the foot of Montrgi Massif [in Catalonia], the town is a well-deserved escape from the crowded nearby cities, such as Barcelona or Girona. It is true that it’s not as popular [amongst tourists] as other places in Spain, but it definitely has a lot to offer and for those who wish to discover a traditional Emporada market town, this would be your destination.
With its oldest buildings dating since 1273, narrow streets, charming people and local traditions, it will most certainly make your visit an enjoyable one.
There is such a warm feeling to it and tranquillity – it creates a sort of a ‘time stood still’ image.
L’Estartit
Another beautiful town worth checking out is L’Estartit. It’s only a few minutes away from Toroella de Montgri, but it has something different to offer and that something is the sea. So we have this beautiful seaside resort in Costa Brava, which opens to the Mediterranean Sea. And what makes it so beautiful? The views! You have the Montgri Masiff in the background, the sea on the opposite side, the hills full of villas that surround the harbor and a kilometer offshore there are a few uninhabited islands that compose the Illes Medes archipelago.
If there is one thing we can think of, that we enjoyed the most in L’Estartit, is the ride we took on the hills near the harbor right before sunset. The steep hills and narrow roads, with views of the sun, slowly sinking in the sea, the wonderful colors of the sky at sunset and the Mediterranean breeze – simply mind-blowing.
